Emacs can be found on gnu.org. Another popular emacs resource is the Emacs Wiki.

You're encouraged to download Emacs and use it for some projects — Emacs is the sort of program that you can ease into slowly; just using it a bit every once in a while to get you acquainted with it will work wonders. Fundamentally, if you want to know how to do anything in Emacs, Google and the Emacs help menu, C-h, will get you there.
